Location: Southampton
Salary: £46,049 to £58,225 per annum
Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Fixed-Term/Contract
Placed On: 27th May 2026
Closes: 30th June 2026
Job Ref: 3421526CM

This is an exciting opportunity to combine senior leadership in cancer clinical research with a public-facing role for Cancer Research UK, promoting the work of the charity through your role at the University of Southampton. You will provide strategic clinical leadership across a portfolio of early and late phase trials, including experimental medicine studies, supporting high-quality, inclusive research delivery and improving patient access to clinical trials.

You will act as an expert resource to research nursing and trial delivery teams, offering mentorship and guidance to ensure studies are delivered to the highest standards of Good Clinical Practice, ethics and regulatory compliance. While not holding direct line management responsibility, you will maintain oversight of workforce capability, service pressures and portfolio needs, supporting prioritisation, recruitment and study delivery. You will be a visible ambassador for Cancer Research UK, promoting research engagement and meaningful patient and public involvement, including working with communications teams to reach wider audiences.

Working collaboratively across the CRUK network, NIHR infrastructure, NHS cancer centre and academic partners, you will help optimise research pathways, reduce inequalities in access to trials and support the development and delivery of a strong research portfolio.

We are seeking a highly motivated individual with excellent interpersonal, communication and organisational skills, who thrives on working independently and collaboratively. You will have significant experience in oncology and/or clinical research, a proven record of team leadership in healthcare and a degree level (or equivalent) nursing qualification. Experience of financial management is desirable.

The role is primarily weekday-based with some flexibility required; occasional out-of-hours work may be necessary. This post is full time, fixed term until 31st March 2029, with part-time applications considered.

The University of Southampton offers 30 days annual leave, plus 8 bank holidays with an additional 6 extra statutory leave days over Easter & Christmas (all pro-rata for part time staff).

*An enhanced DBS check is required for this role.
