Location: College Lane Campus and Meridian House
The Technical Team in the School of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences supports a wide and diverse range of subjects including Allied Health Professions, Nursing Health and Wellbeing, Sports Science, Pharmacy, Biosciences, Psychology. Highly skilled technical staff are organized into small specialist teams, who work together alongside academic and research staff.
Main duties and responsibilities
You will manage the technical team and teaching spaces relating to Health areas of the HML School. You will work directly with students, supporting practical classes, student project work, workshops, short courses, as well as supporting consultancy and contract work. The Laboratory Manager – Clinical Skills and Simulation will manage the maintenance and operation of the teaching/research equipment and teaching spaces in the Health areas. You will also manage the procurement, storage, usage and reporting of specialist equipment, and will offer expert advice on the purchase of new capital equipment and consumables.
You will advise on health and safety within the area, and ensure that legislation and regulation are complied with, local codes of practice are followed, and relevant records are kept. The successful applicant will support students studying Adult, Child, Mental Health and Learning Disability Nursing and Midwifery, Paramedic Science, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech & Language Therapy, Radiography, Radiotherapy and Social Work.
Skills and experience required
Experience of working in clinical simulation in a technical role, experience of managing or supervising technical staff and experience of managing resources is essential. You will also have experience in managing healthy and safety in a clinical or clinical simulation context. You will be able to communicate with external contacts, students at all levels, and with academic and technical colleagues and have the ability to act independently and as part of a team. You will have a methodical approach and attention to detail with the ability to follow detailed instructions comprehensively and be flexible, adaptable and reliable. A proactive approach, and an ability to work to deadlines is essential as are highly competent IT skills, good numeracy skills and good timekeeping.
Qualifications required
You will be educated with a minimum of a HND/Degree/NVQ Level 4 or equivalent in a relevant science subject or equivalent in-service experience and education.
