The role

We seek to appoint an ambitious and collaborative Lecturer in Biological Sciences (equivalent to Assistant Professor in other Universities) in Bioinformatics. Based within the School of Biological Sciences, one of the UK's leading centres for research and education in the life sciences, the successful applicant will develop an internationally outstanding research programme that aligns and enhances one or more of the School’s strategic research priorities:

  • Evolutionary Biology and understanding the evolution of life
  • Behavioural and Sensory Ecology and responding to anthropogenic change
  • Ecology and reversing the biodiversity crisis
  • Plant Sciences and transforming sustainable food production
  • Innovating Education for Biological Sciences

You will join a vibrant and collaborative academic community and contribute to the School's broad portfolio of undergraduate and postgraduate education. In particular, they you will bring expertise in bioinformatics and the comparative analysis of diverse omics datasets, supporting the continued growth and success of our teaching and research activities.

The School would particularly welcome applicants with skills in developing AI-based analytical tools and an interest in industrial engagement, knowledge exchange or collaborate research with external partners although these are not essential requirements for the role.

What will you be doing?

As a newly appointed Pathway One (research & teaching) academic, you will contribute to research, teaching and administration within a thriving department.  You will build and lead a research programme to a world-leading standard and teach both undergraduates and postgraduates. Crucially, you will play a central role in delivering teaching and supervision to postgraduate students in our successful MSc in Bioinformatics, working alongside the director of the MSc Bioinformatics and a full-time teaching-focussed operational lead. You will develop expertise in authentic assessment & feedback, technology-enhanced learning and student wellbeing. As your career develops, there will be opportunities to take on broader leadership responsibilities within the School and University, including the potential to contribute to the future strategic direction of the MSc Bioinformatics programme.

You will also be supported to develop interdisciplinary research opportunities across the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences, the wider University, and with external partners, including industry.
