We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and proactive HR Coordinator to join our established HR team within the Department of Engineering. As the team continues to evolve, this role offers the opportunity to contribute to the delivery of a high-quality HR service within one of the largest departments in the University, while helping to enhance and improve our people processes and ways of working.
The Department of Engineering is the largest within the University of Cambridge (approximately 800 staff) and operates across a diverse range of Academic and Professional Services divisions. The role holder will play an important part in supporting the delivery of a professional, responsive and efficient HR service within a complex and fast-paced environment. We are seeking an organised and customer-focused HR professional who can build positive working relationships, provide accurate advice and guidance, and ensure HR processes are delivered effectively and compliantly.
Reporting to an HR Manager and working as part of the wider Departmental HR team, you will collaborate closely with HR colleagues to support a broad range of HR activities across the employee lifecycle. The role encompasses coordinating recruitment and onboarding processes, managing visitor administration and compliance requirements, supporting probation and appraisal procedures, maintaining accurate HR records, and providing first-line advice to managers and staff on a variety of HR policies and employment-related matters. You will also work closely with colleagues across the Department and University to ensure compliance with employment legislation, immigration requirements and University policies.
The successful candidate will have experience in HR administration or coordination, strong organisational skills, and exceptional attention to detail. You will be confident managing multiple priorities, handling sensitive information with discretion, and providing a high standard of customer service. Strong communication skills, a collaborative approach and the ability to work effectively in a complex environment are essential. Experience of recruitment, immigration or visitor administration, HR systems and providing HR advice would be advantageous. As part of the wider HR team, you will contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and support projects that enhance the experience of staff and visitors across the Department.
The department offers a welcoming and inclusive environment, and the opportunity to work alongside supportive and collaborative colleagues. For more information about the department, please visit: https://www.eng.cam.ac.uk/
