QHT Studentships 27/28 Entry

University of Westminster – Graduate School

QHT Studentships – September 2027 Entry

We are delighted to announce the opportunity to apply for 10 QHT Studentships for doctoral research commencing in September 2027. These prestigious awards are open across all Schools within the University.

Purpose and Vision

The QHT Studentships aim to strengthen our research culture by supporting projects that expand supervisory capacity, foster interdisciplinary collaboration, and advance the University’s commitments to equality, diversity, and inclusion. Successful applicants will join a dynamic research environment and contribute to work that aligns with one or more of the University’s key research themes.

Selection Criteria

Applications will be assessed against four criteria:

  • Expansion of supervisory capacity – giving supervisory experience to new supervisors, including Early Career Researchers.
  • Engagement with Research Communities – work that attends to one or more of the University’s key research themes.
  • Development of interdisciplinarity – fostering collaboration across disciplines.
  • Contribution to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) – through the student, supervisory team, or proposed research.

Application Process

Schools will review and shortlist applications internally, submitting up to two nominations to the QHT Selection Panel. Shortlisted applicants must hold an offer with the University.

Applicants who are not awarded a QHT Studentship will retain a self-funded offer with the University.

Timeline

  • Deadline for applications: 5 February 2027
  • Interviews: Week commencing 8 March 2027
  • Panel meets to agree awards: Mid-April 2027

The studentships will consist of:

A fee waiver (at home fee level) and an annual stipend which will match UKRI stipend levels and will include London weighting. UKRI have not announced their 27/28 stipend level yet, but in 26/27 the UKRI UK fees are £5,238 and the stipend is £23,805 (which includes London weighting). The stipend will be for 3.5 years and fee waiver for 3 years.*

Applications are welcomed from international students. The difference between the home fee waiver and the fee for international students would need to be met by the student. Overseas fees for 26/27 are £17,510.

* Minimum full-time enrolment before submission is 33 months.  Fee waivers are in place for the three-year studentship.

Following that there is a six month no fee period for writing up.

Should a doctoral research student not have submitted by the end of the no fee period then a £1,500 fee is applicable.
