Munster Technological University (MTU) was established on 1st January 2021 and is the newest University in the South-West with six campuses across Cork and Kerry. MTU has over 18,000 learners, 2,000 staff and 140 courses and programmes ranging from apprenticeships, degrees, Masters to PhDs. Its mission is to lead change and, through education, empower people for a successful future in a globalised world. MTU provides a broad range of programmes and research opportunities across multiple disciplines, contributing to regional development and innovation. This is an exciting time to join the MTU community as they continue through a period of transition and transformation.
MTU is establishing its first professorial appointments to strengthen research leadership, develop talent and extend the contribution of its research to industry and society in the South-West region of Ireland. MTU invites applications for the above post.
The Professor of Circular Bioeconomy will build on an established research platform to advance its scale, international influence and impact.
The Circular Bioeconomy combines the sustainable use of renewable biological resources with circular economy principles to address challenges in food, energy, materials and the environment. It connects scientific and technological advances with changes in production, resource use and economic activity, creating opportunities for research that delivers practical environmental, industrial and societal benefits.
MTU has developed substantial capability through its Circular Bioeconomy Research Group, CircBio, within the Centre for Applied Biosciences Research. Its expertise spans bioprocessing, biorefining, biomanufacturing, biomaterials, bioenergy, nutrient recovery and the assessment of sustainable bio-based systems. An established portfolio of national and European projects, industry relationships, and pilot and demonstration-scale facilities provides a strong foundation for further development.
The CircBio Cluster, CABR Technology Gateway and wider university expertise in Science, Engineering, Business and Sustainability connect research with enterprise needs, education and policy. The appointment offers an internationally recognised researcher the opportunity to build on these strengths, develop research talent and lead collaborative programmes that advance the transition towards a sustainable circular bioeconomy.
MTU will be supported in this appointment process by the executive search firm Perrett Laver. Enquiries can be made directly to Chris McCann, chris.mccann@perrettlaver.com.
Applications should be made using MTUs e-Recruitment system only. Applications will not be accepted in any other format.
