Munster Technological University (MTU) was established on 1st January 2021 and is the newest University in the South-West with six campuses across Cork and Kerry. MTU has over 18,000 learners, 2,000 staff and 140 courses and programmes ranging from apprenticeships, degrees, Masters to PhDs. Its mission is to lead change and, through education, empower people for a successful future in a globalised world. MTU provides a broad range of programmes and research opportunities across multiple disciplines, contributing to regional development and innovation. This is an exciting time to join the MTU community as they continue through a period of transition and transformation.
MTU is establishing its first professorial appointments to strengthen research leadership, develop talent and extend the contribution of its research to industry and society in the South-West region of Ireland. MTU invites applications for the above post.
The Professor of Creative Arts and Industries will develop a new interdisciplinary research programme connecting creative practice and artistic research with health, wellbeing, inclusion and social impact.
Creative and performing arts, design and creative technologies offer distinctive ways to understand practice-based artistic methodologies, enable participation, community practices and respond dynamically. This appointment offers the opportunity to develop those contributions through rigorous, practice-led research and sustained collaboration with colleagues, communities, professional organisations and creative industries.
MTU provides a foundation of creative expertise across art, performance, design, media and creative technologies, supported by studios, specialist environments and external relationships. Complementary expertise in the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences includes community health, care, disability, inclusion and digital health as well as the Faculty of Engineering and further expertise in creative technologies (and use of immersive technologies). Together, these capabilities create opportunities for research that brings materially different disciplines into productive collaboration.
The appointment offers an internationally recognised creative research leader scope to shape an emerging programme, develop researchers and build partnerships. Its central ambition is to turn interdisciplinary potential into sustained research activity, doctoral development, external funding and demonstrable benefit beyond the University.
MTU will be supported in this appointment process by the executive search firm Perrett Laver. Enquiries can be made directly to Chris McCann, chris.mccann@perrettlaver.com.
Applications should be made using MTU’s e-Recruitment system only. Applications will not be accepted in any other format.
Closing date for receipt of completed applications:
1.00 pm on Friday 8th January 2027
