JOB OVERVIEW

Durham University International Study Centre (DUISC) launched in September 2017. You will be working in a culture of enhancing learning, teaching and assessment through a developmental approach, which for you will mean autonomy, innovation, and development opportunities.

You will work with colleagues across the Centre to ensure the effective delivery of teaching programmes in line with our teaching, learning and assessment strategy, broader scholarship and aims for an outstanding student experience. You will also contribute directly to student support and to the development and implementation of innovative teaching practices across the UKE Centre. As a tutor, you will contribute to the design, development and production of teaching and learning materials, across a range of programmes at various RQF levels.

The purpose of the role is to deliver highly effective modules at both International Foundation Year (Pre-Undergraduate or Level 3 Equivalent) and Graduate Diploma (Pre Masters) level, in the Centre and via online teaching.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the Head of HLSS and/or Subject Lead.

Durham University International Study Centre programmes cover the following subject areas:

  • Foundation: Humanities, Law and Social Sciences
  • Pre-Masters: Law and Social Science

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering modules (online and face-to-face) to international students studying on programmes offered by the Centre and assisting with the development of modules.
  • Developing modules from module specifications. This will include schemes of learning along with appropriate development of learning resources.
  • Preparing module examinations and other forms of formative and summative assessment, marking and providing feedback to students.
  • Assisting with the development and maintenance of the Centre’s virtual learning environment (VLE). Facilitating student access to same.
  • Providing input for related modules to the annual review and reporting process
  • Maintaining an accurate and up-to-date record of student attendance and performance
  • Providing, when/if required, academic learning support to a small number of students
  • Participating in regular meetings with teaching and support staff.
  • Supporting various student engagement activities around the ISC.
  • Attending lectures given by Durham University to support student progression.
  • Arranging and supporting visits to places of interest linked to subject.

EXPERIENCE

  • A recognised teacher status qualification (desirable)
  • A Master’s degree or equivalent in a related subject area (desirable for foundation, essential for pre-masters)
  • Fluent spoken and written English
  • Teaching experience delivering Law/Social Science programmes within a UK FE/Sixth form or higher education context (essential)
  • Preferably experience of working with international students online and face to face.
