ABOUT THE ROLE

We have 3 x Fixed-Term Research Officer positions available, working 35 hours per week.

We are seeking a committed, enthusiastic Research Officer to contribute to ground breaking research using linked population data held in the Secure Anonymised Information Linkage (SAIL) Databank. The appointee will be responsible for the analysis and interpretation of research data and draw conclusions on the outcomes as well as be actively engaged in the writing and publishing of research papers. They will need to contribute pro-actively to the development of external funding applications to support their own work, that of others and the College and the Institution in general. The role brings with it professional opportunities to demonstrate their interpersonal skills by interacting with collaborators and partners within the College, elsewhere in the University and beyond both in industry/commerce and academia.  

The appointee will be a member of SAIL Analytical Services, an interdisciplinary team applying cutting-edge methods to further research in this field, so that maximum benefit may be derived from this data to improve population health and well-being.

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate a higher or postgraduate degree (or equivalent) in a relevant subject or equivalent experience. They will need to show evidence the ability to build and use complex SQL queries to interrogate data within a relational database environment as well as completing the end resulting data analysis. They need to show excellent writing ability, showing active engagement, personal role, and ability to competently write and contribute to publishing research papers, particularly for refereed journals.  The appointee will need to evidence working with big data, preferably in a health, education, justice, or social care context or similar.
