Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Research Office at Imperial College London, in the full-time post of Senior Research Security Advisor.
Imperial College London: Imperial College London is a global university consistently rated in the top 10 world universities, with a world-class reputation in science, engineering, medicine and business. Located in the heart of ‘Albertopolis’, the University sits next door to the Science, Natural History and Victoria and Albert museums, and a short walk from Hyde Park. Working at Imperial offers a range of benefits as well as a generous pension scheme. The University is located at several campuses across London, although the post holder will be based at the main campus in South Kensington. The Research Office operates a hybrid working model in line with the University’s Work Location Framework.
Duties and responsibilities
International collaboration forms a major part of Imperial College London’s research portfolio, and with such internationalisation we need to ensure that this activity is carried out with the highest degree of integrity and in line with legislation and any international regimes. The post of Senior Research Security Advisor will support the development and implementation of policy, process, and practice to underpin Imperial’s capabilities in taking a responsible and informed approach to research security – including compliance with export and trade control legislation and connected research security requirements and considerations. As a member of the University’s central Research Office, your primary objective will be to promote and facilitate a security-conscious approach to research that is sensitive to the global context and protective of both the University’s academic independence and integrity.
Essential requirements
The ideal candidate should demonstrate a sound knowledge and understanding of the research security environment, including export controls and the core regulations underpinning UK legislation. It is also preferable, but not essential, that the candidate should have gained previous experience of working in the HEI sector, be educated to degree level (or equivalent). Candidates must possess excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and be able to work independently, with a high degree of integrity on complex and sometimes sensitive matters.
