Postdoctoral Research Scientist (Immunology)

Starting salary is £33,500 per annum to £43,105 per annum (depending on number of years post-PhD experience) 

The Babraham Institute is a charity which is world renowned for its research in life sciences to enhance lives and improve wellbeing. The overarching research goal of the Kai-Michael Toellner lab is to understand how B lymphocytes differentiate and interact in responses to vaccines or pathogens and how this leads to the generation of protective antibodies and long-term immune memory.  

We are looking to welcome two new members to our team, with postdoctoral research scientist positions available to work on the mechanisms that underpin successful responses to vaccination. The successful applicant will work to understand the fundamental biology of the germinal centre responses, particularly:

• understanding the role of B cell - macrophage interactions for the adaption to virus escape, memory, and immune tolerance.
• understanding signals that regulate the activation and selection of germinal centre B cells in immunity and tolerance

This work is part of a successful BBSRC project and builds on previous published work from our laboratory: https://www.babraham.ac.uk/our-research/immunology/kai-michael-toellner/publications 

The project will use a wide variety of cellular and molecular immunology techniques. We are particularly interested in recruiting people who have experience in imaging (two-photon intravital imaging, multiparameter fluorescence microscopy, whole tissue clearing), single cell RNA sequencing and analysis, bioinformatics, and flow cytometry. We do not expect an individual candidate to be proficient in all of these in order to be appointed. Post-doctoral scientists will be the scientific lead on their project, with mentoring and support provided to ensure their success. 

The positions are limited term appointments with funding expected to be available for a period of three years in first instance.

Please note that you will be appointed on the starting salary of £33,500 per annum, if you have not yet been awarded your PhD.  All newly appointed postdocs will commence on the salary/scale point that reflects the number of years' post-PhD experience they hold on 30th June in the calendar year they commence employment.
