Applications are invited for the above post to work on a three-year Wellcome Trust funded project that is investigating the effects of thermal environment during early pregnancy on mammalian embryo development. The successful candidate will join a collaborative team of scientists, based at the Universities of Nottingham and Leeds in the UK, who are investigating the effects of heat stress in a porcine model of endometrial function and early embryo development up to and including gastrulation in both F1 and F2 generations. Physiological measures of cardiometabolic health and renal function will also be undertaken in adult F1 offspring. However, the position on offer will focus primarily on embryonic stages.

The successful candidate will lead on two objectives that will assess chromatin modifications and undertake lineage mapping at different stages of F1 and F2 embryo development, up to and including gastrulation, using single-cell ATACseq and single-cell RNAseq. The epigenome of primordial germs cells will also be examined for histone modifications following isolation.

Applicants must have a PhD (or close to completion) in Mammalian Embryology, Reproductive or Developmental Biology/Genetics/ or Bioinformatics, or a closely related subject.

Evidence of use of state-of-the-art molecular (e.g., epigenomics, RNAseq) techniques and associated bioinformatics is essential.

The post is offered on full-time (36.25 hours per week), fixed term contract for up to 36 months, available from 1st August 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter. Job share arrangements may be considered.

The role will be based at the University of Nottingham, but willingness to travel within the UK to meet with collaborators in Leeds, and overseas for scientific meetings/conferences is desirable.

Informal enquiries should be directed to Prof Kevin Sinclair (kevin.sinclair@nottingham.ac.uk) or Prof Ramiro Alberio (ramiro.alberio@nottingham.ac.uk) or Prof David Gardner (david.gardner@nottingham.ac.uk). However, applications must be made through the University of Nottingham website. Applications sent directly by email alone will not be accepted.

Requests for secondment from internal candidates may be considered on the basis that prior agreement has been sought from both your current line manager and the manager of your substantive post, if you are already undertaking a secondment role.
