University of Bristol - School of Psychological Science

Location: Bristol
Salary: £41,732 to £46,974 per annum
Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Fixed-Term/Contract
Placed On: 11th April 2024
Closes: 8th May 2024
Job Ref: ACAD107484

The role

The School of Psychological Science seeks to appoint a fixed-term academic until March 31, 2026, with a possible extension to March 2028. The successful candidate will join a growing team of academics that is focused on research methods training delivery, with a strategic remit to help the School develop a range of short courses and a research focus on meta-research (research on research).

We are looking for a highly motivated individual to join a team of teaching and research staff within the School, with a particular interest in developing a strategy for the delivery of short courses for a range of audiences at different career stages, on topics such as open and reproducible research practices. We are therefore keen to invite individuals with experience in developing and delivering short courses to non-traditional academic audiences (e.g., CPD, lifelong learners).

The successful candidate will contribute to the planning and delivery of and support for teaching and research training and the development of a research agenda in meta-research. The main job purpose will be to provide high quality support for students and staff (through laboratory teaching, project supervision, administrative support, marking, and taking on special administrative projects to enhance our curriculum and student experience) and develop our meta-research profile.

We are keen to interview both candidates who are interested in pursuing a research and teaching pathway (Pathway 1) or a teaching-focused pathway (Pathway 3). Determination of pathway will be decided once the successful candidate has been identified.

What will you be doing?

Working in a collegial and supportive environment, the successful candidate will contribute to the support, delivery, and development of our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, help develop short courses for a range of non-traditional academic audiences, and contribute to our growing portfolio of meta-research projects and our strategy to expand this.

The main teaching aspect of the job will be to support research methods teaching and supervising student projects. The main administrative task will be to develop avenues for offering short courses (with a focus on open and reproducible research). The main research focus will be on developing and growing our research capacity in meta-research (research on research).

You should apply if

You have experience of teaching and supporting students in psychology in a UK academic setting and of meta-research (broadly defined). You have the ability and enthusiasm to engage effectively with professional and academic staff and work independently to organise your own schedule. You can demonstrate knowledge of culturally inclusive teaching practice and have experience of teaching research methods and a passion for developing courses for lifelong learning. You have an understanding of and commitment to open research practices and a desire to pursue or help develop a research agenda in meta-research.

Additional information

For informal enquiries please contact Dr Chris Kent (School Education Director and Deputy Head of School), c.kent@bristol.ac.uk.

A short-list decision should be reached by 15th May 2024 and interviews will be held on 12th June 2024.

The University of Bristol aims to be a place where everyone feels able to be themselves and do their best in an inclusive working environment where all colleagues can thrive and reach their full potential. We want to attract, develop, and retain individuals with different experiences, backgrounds and perspectives because diversity of people and ideas remains integral to our excellence as a global civic institution.
