Do you have an excellent research track record with the vision and drive to tackle new challenges? Are you passionate about delivering world-leading research and developing the academic child health workforce of the future?

We are recruiting a senior leader to join our expanding cohort of academic child health researchers. Our new academic child health strategy at the University of Leeds seeks a talented and energetic individual to support the development, delivery and expansion of our Child Health Outcomes Research at Leeds (CHORAL) programme.

The £5m CHORAL programme (www.choralresearch.org.uk) focuses on key areas where research can improve outcomes for children and young people, particularly severe childhood illnesses including cancer, life-threatening diseases, health inequality, deprivation, and mental health conditions. CHORAL 2023-28, builds upon major capital investment in a new Leeds Children’s Hospital to create a world-leading platform of academic excellence in children’s healthcare through:

  • Establishment of a multidisciplinary research centre comprising members from across the Faculty of Medicine and Health at the University of Leeds (UoL) and Leeds Children’s Hospital at the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust (LTHT).
  • A co-ordinated pipeline development of child health researchers. Our programme will draw on expertise across the University of Leeds and tap into the world-class research on childhood development – enabling a truly holistic approach to improving child health.

The successful candidate will be an established paediatrician, with a demonstrable track record of interdisciplinary research and academic leadership. As the successful candidate, you will have evidence of an excellent track record of research and publications in one or more of the following areas: general paediatrics with expertise in inequalities/deprivation, neonatology, paediatric haematology, paediatric oncology, or paediatric critical care. The successful candidate will also have a research agenda that is aligned with the Child Health Outcomes Research at Leeds (CHORAL) programme and the overall strategy of the University of Leeds. You will be expected to have a national and international reputation in your field, with engagement in relevant clinical, professional and research networks.
