About us: The Health and Safety Team’s work has already achieved a strong devolved health and safety approach. As the University looks ahead to 2030 and the implementation of its Strategy 2030, there will be a focus on continual improvement on health, safety, and fire. This will be achieved through the implementation of our ‘Health and Safety Roadmap 2030’ which has three objectives and annually set milestones to ensure this continual improvement.
We strive to we have robust strategies and policies, strong leadership, sound governance, excellent professional advice, targeted coaching and training and reliable performance monitoring and measurement.
You will play a vital role in the Health and Safety Team and will focus on the development and implementation of the University’s Fire Safety Management System and act as the University's appointed competent fire safety person.
You will be the main contact for all fire safety matters including fire risk assessments, fire risk mitigations, advice, support, training, and audit.
Due to the nature of this role, it will mainly be campus based.
About you: This is an exciting opportunity and will suit a well-rounded, highly motivated fire safety professional who is able to engage and influence at all levels and has a pragmatic customer-focused approach to fire safety.
You will have substantial experience and a comprehensive knowledge of fire safety, having worked within large, complex organisations with a broad range of fire safety risks. Ideally, you will have an IQ Level 4 Diploma in Fire Safety or other equivalent level 4 fire safety qualification. You will meet the competency criteria for fire risk assessors and be at least a graduate member of the IFE or other relevant professional body. Candidates who may be working towards their qualifications, registrations and memberships are encouraged to apply especially where all other essential criteria are met.
Your experience should include developing, implementing, and managing risk assessment programmes, supporting, and advising upon fire safety in new building projects, alterations implementing and delivering fire safety training and conducting fire safety audits. There is also a very practical element of the role requiring management of the firefighting provision contract and development and delivery of the University’s fire drill programme

This is a full-time, permanent post, working 37 hours per week.
