Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join Imperial College London’s Global Development Hub to support academic community-building and external partnerships in a global development context. The role will support the fostering of new partnerships and opportunities with a wide range of stakeholders, including in civil society, universities, industry and academia.

You will use academic community-building as a springboard to support the building of equitable partnerships between Imperial College London researchers and relevant organisations working in a development-context (e.g academic institutions in Lower Middle Income Countries, NGOs, Multi-Lateral Organisations such as United Nations entities).

You will support initiatives that position the College as a thought leader in the development sphere and amplify and complement forums, strategic initiatives and networks at Imperial that bring together government/policymakers, academia and industry to tackle development challenges (e.g-Transition to Zero Pollution, Institute for Global Health Innovation, Grantham Institute for Climate Change, Energy Futures Lab).

Duties and responsibilities

  • Support the building of partnerships between College researchers, non-academic collaborators and partners in Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and Lower Middle Income Countries (LMICs) to build equitable partnerships that secure real world impact through context-appropriate solutions;
  • Build and maintain internal and external networks of researchers focused on STEM impact on development challenges;
  • Organising a ‘STEM in Development’ lecture with high profile speakers to raise awareness of the Hub and foster new external relationships;
  • Coordinate emerging Global Development Hub partnership opportunities by forming and managing a research impact and partnership accelerator network;
  • Effectively promote the Global Development Hub’s interests externally, to organisations including multi-lateral agencies, academic partners, policymakers, NGOs, development practitioners and other relevant stakeholders;
  • Develop programmes of engagement for Imperial at relevant international development community events;
  • Support and develop programmes that foster student and early career researcher exchanges with partner organisations to develop and advance collaborative approaches and practical solutions to global development challenges.

Essential requirements

  • An undergraduate degree preferably in science, medicine, business or engineering subject or relevant equivalent qualification
  • Proven ability to work successfully and positively with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders, from varying backgrounds and at varying levels of seniority
  • Possess credibility with senior and academic colleagues, and partner institutions
  • Excellent knowledge of the international higher education landscape
  • Excellent written English and the ability to prepare high quality briefings and reports
  • Demonstrable knowledge of the cultural, educational and political context for development-focused partnerships
