Wolfson College, University of Oxford, wishes to appoint a Communications Officer to manage the College’s internal and external communications. This is an important post involved in setting strategy and policy, and in the delivery of communications at Wolfson. We are looking for an experienced communications professional who is social media savvy, has excellent written English, website management skills, and good general IT skills. This is a great opportunity for someone who is passionate about communicating and keen to take on a managerial role with a strong creative element.

In 2024, Wolfson celebrates the fiftieth anniversary of the opening of its iconic campus with the completion of its award-winning Wolfson: Zero Carbon project, making the college the UK’s first zero-carbon emitting HE institution. Alongside the ground-breaking research of our fellows and students, the lively cultural and social scene here, and the excellent pastoral care we offer, this is an example of the many exciting things at Wolfson College that we want to communicate.

The successful candidate will develop the College’s communications strategy with a view to increasing the College’s visibility and projecting a consistent ‘look’ across a wide variety of different media. They will work with the President and other College Officers and oversee all College branding and primary communication channels. They will manage the Communications Assistant and will also work with the Alumni & Development Office on publications and publicity.

Other responsibilities are related to managing internal communications, including overseeing the weekly e-newssheet compiled by the Communications Assistant, managing the content on the College website and ensuring it is up-to-date and visually exciting, and liaising with staff and members across the College to identify newsworthy stories.

Wolfson College is a great place to work. Founded as a graduate college in 1966, it is one of Oxford University’s largest and most international colleges, with an open and inclusive ethos. Wolfson is home to more than 700 students and nearly 100 postdocs from more than 70 countries. The college is located on the banks for the Cherwell in north Oxford, with a campus of Grade 2 listed buildings and open parkland.

The College has a reputation as an excellent employer. Staff enjoy 39 days’ annual leave allowance, a generous pension scheme, free lunch within allowance when on duty, on-site parking, and an opportunity to become a Member of Common Room with use of the college gyms, tennis and squash courts, free tea and coffee and more.

We encourage applicants from all sectors of the community and are especially keen to encourage candidates from under-represented groups to apply.

This is a part-time role which involves 22.5 hours per week paid at £23,620 per annum. Working hours can be spread between three and five days a week and are usually during normal office hours with some out of hours work. The role is predominantly office based, however some remote work may be possible.
