We are looking for an experienced Senior Finance Officer to join our Business Support team at the Institute of Genetics and Cancer for a two-year fixed term post. This is an exciting opportunity for anyone that is seeking to build on their budgeting and forecasting skills by supporting experts across a broad spectrum of scientific disciplines on a large and diverse portfolio of research projects.
This post is full-time (35 hours per week); however, we are open to considering part-time or flexible working patterns. We are also open to considering requests for hybrid working (on a non-contractual basis) that combines a mix of remote and regular on-campus working.
The Opportunity:
The Institute is currently structured around three research centres: Edinburgh Cancer Research Centre, Human Genetics Unit, and the Centre for Genomic & Experimental Medicine. Annual turnover is approximately £50 million and the Institute has around six hundred live research projects across all three centres. The postholder will have oversight of an extensive and diverse portfolio of research projects and general ledger (restricted and unrestricted) budgets.
You will work to a high degree of independence across all three research centres to deliver customer centric advice and guidance to Principal Investigators, Lab Managers and Undergraduate Students to achieve optimal use of resources whilst maximising cost recovery to the University. As a technical role that requires knowledge of accounting practices and funding guidelines, this post will play a pivotal part in establishing relationships with key stakeholders.
