We are seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual who is excited about the prospect of using B-cell genetics in an archetypal autoimmune disease to explore fundamental questions about the origin of and evolution of the auto-antibody response. The candidate will be central to a new collaboration between the Neuroimmunology groups in Basel and Oxford. We anticipate that they will develop a range of highly transferrable skills including expertise in cloning B-cells to complex membrane-bound antigens, skills in cloning and expressing immunoglobulin genes, skills in characterising antibody binding and effector functions and relating these to disease mechanisms in myasthenia gravis. 

Some of your duties will include getting familiarised with process of collection, processing, storing and transporting biological samples, including blood and its products (cells and plasma) and thymus tissue, analysing data acquired during experiments and draft research reports and contribute to the regular reports to funding organisation and department. 

It is essential that you have a PhD or equivalent: completed, or nearing completion within 6 months from the date of this application. As well as decision-making, problem-solving, planning and organising and willing to travel between Oxford and Basel is very likely to be necessary, including weeks or months in Basel. 

It is desirable that you have an interest in laboratory research and academic aspects of myasthenia gravis, an understanding of the main ethical questions and guiding principles in regards to patient data protection and evidence of previous research outputs, including scientific publications.
