Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Permanent

Job Ref: SRF47129

Occupying three beautiful campuses ranging from the urban utopia of London Road, the peaceful parkland of Whiteknights to the riverside retreat of Greenlands, the unique “University in a Park” setting of the University of Reading is an inspiring place to come to work.

The University of Reading is a top 30 UK university that has been at the forefront of UK higher education for nearly a century. As an organisation it is committed to acting together, as a diverse and inclusive community, to deliver a better world through the transformational power of education and research. Within this community, the Estates Directorate have a critical role to play in managing the University’s substantial land and property interests.

The University is growing its student population but not its footprint and is looking for innovative data driven solutions to meet this challenge. Much of our data comes from our technical drawings (CADs). Accurate and timely management of these drawings is essential to our understanding of the estate and to the development of the strategic space related solutions that will support our growth targets.
We have an exciting new opportunity for a CAD Technician to join a growing Space & Asset Management Team.

About the role
The CAD Technician role has responsibility for amending, updating, and publishing CAD drawings to the agreed standard. Following a prioritised plan, the role holder will use surveys and Operation and Maintenance (O&M) Manuals to identify and correct errors in our master drawings.
It is an exciting time to be joining the Space & Asset Management Team because we are about to implement a new Computer Aided Facilities Management (CAFM) system. The CAD Technician will play a significant role in preparing drawings for upload to this system and in embedding the new processes that will ensure the future accuracy of our property data.

About you
You will be proficient in the use of AutoCAD and familiar with the ways in which CAD drawings typically interface with a CAFM system. You will be a team player with the ability to work quickly and accurately on routine tasks.

Educated to BTEC/ONC or higher level, you will have substantial experience working in CAD roles preferably within an Estates department. You will ideally have had training in the use of AutoCAD and will have kept this up to date in line with updates in the AutoCAD software.

You will be able to demonstrate a commitment to continuous improvement and will have a robust understanding of best practices in document management and version control.

You will have good communication and interpersonal skills, responding with flexibility to shifting priorities and changes in the urgency of allocated tasks.

Closing date - 30/05/2024
