Executive Dean, School of Health and Medical Sciences

City, University of London and St George’s University of London seek to appoint an inaugural Executive Dean for the future School of Health and Medical Sciences within the newly merged institution, City St George’s. The merger will create a ‘health powerhouse’ for students, researchers, the NHS and partners in uniting a world-leading specialist health university with City’s excellence in a breadth of disciplines including health, business, law, creativity, communications, science and technology. The new School will be one of the UK’s largest health educators and its most comprehensive.

This role offers the successful candidate a career-defining opportunity to bring together two academic and student communities in one School. They will contribute to the broader realisation of the benefits arising from the combination of the two institutions and across the wider University and will play a critical role in maintaining and enhancing partnerships with NHS trusts and healthcare partners.

Reporting to the President, Professor Sir Anthony Finkelstein, for strategic matters, the Executive Dean will be a member of the institution’s Senior Leadership Team; working strategically and collaboratively to drive the School’s performance and achievement, and contribute to the broader leadership of the University. With responsibility for over 11,000 students and over 1000 staff, the School will offer an outstanding breadth of expertise in research and education across medicine, pharmacology, biomedical science, radiography, allied and global health, nursing, midwifery, speech and language therapy, optometry, counselling and psychology. The School will be at the forefront of changes to treatment, population health, innovative healthcare workforce development, leadership, policy and advocacy.
