As part of a recently Leverhulme Trust funded project, “Self-assembled redox-active hosts for amino acids and neurosignaling molecules”, led by Prof Jim A Thomas we seek to recruit a talented postdoctoral researcher with a background in supramolecular chemistry for a multi-disciplinary project aimed at exploiting transition metal-templated self-assembly to construct supramolecular hosts for specific amino acids and biological signalling models in water. Ideally, you should have experience in synthesizing and characterizing polypyridyl d6 metal complexes and associated ligand syntheses. As the targeted hosts will incorporate redox or photoactive moieties to provide a signalling output, previous experience in electrochemical techniques such as cyclic voltammetry and the characterisation of photo-excited states, particularly in supramolecular architectures, would be an advantage.

General requirements of the posts will involve literature and patent searches, presentation and publishing of findings as necessary and the ability interact effectively as part of a team  You are expected to hold an honours first degree (minimum 2:1) in Chemistry and a higher degree (PhD) in a relevant subject area. Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, report writing skills, experience of delivering presentations, experience of writing peer-reviewed publications and the ability to adapt and to learn new skills are essential.
