Applications are invited for the post of Postdoctoral Research Associate (PDRA) at the University of Liverpool, as part of the 5-year E.R.C. project SPUD: Single-Photon Unimolecular Devices, funded by UKRI under the Frontier Research Guarantee scheme. The project aims at developing single-molecule optoelectronic devices, leveraging the opportunities given by synthetic chemistry into the wider field of quantum electronics and photonics. Our final aim is to synthesise novel molecular emitters and integrate them in nanoscale electrical devices, to exploit their two-level nature towards efficient single-photon emission. You will be based in Dr Andrea Vezzoli’s research group (https://pcwww.liv.ac.uk/~skeja).
You should have (or are about to obtain) a PhD in Chemistry or in a suitable area of Material Science, with significant experience in organic synthesis. We are especially interested in candidates with expertise in the synthesis and functionalisation of fluorophores, chromophores and other light-emitting compounds, and/or in the synthesis of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons.
Experience in device fabrication and characterisation (e.g. OLED, molecular junctions, *etc.*) is desirable, but specific training on the techniques we use will be provided to the appointed candidate.
The position is available on a fixed term basis, from September 2024 for 3 years, with the possibility of an extension to the end of the project (January 2029).
Please direct any enquiry about the project or the position to andrea.vezzoli@liverpool.ac.uk
Any applicants who are still awaiting their PhD to be awarded should be aware that if successful, they will be appointed at grade 6, spine point 30. Upon written confirmation that they have been successful in being awarded their PhD, they will be moved onto grade 7, spine point 31 from the date of their award.
