Working pattern

We embrace flexible and hybrid working. Our many research programmes require collaboration across disciplines and therefore for this position we would require you to be on campus in Guildford, 2 days a month.

Surrey Business School is a mid-sized business school with over 120 academic staff members from around the globe, and a highly cohesive and collegial atmosphere. The school is accredited by AACSB, AMBA and holds the Advance HE Athena SWAN bronze award. We inspire positive change in business and society, individuals and organisations, locally and globally by blending the rigour of high-quality impactful research with excellent teaching and the strengths of a technology-led university. We are ranked in the top 10 for business and economics in the United Kingdom by the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2023 by subject. Our results in the Research Excellence Framework 2021 place us 19th overall in the UK, 10th in the UK for research outputs and 16th in the UK for research impact.

This position is funded by NIHR full-time for 2 years, with a desired start date of 1st July 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter. An office at the University of Surrey in Guildford is available and can be executed on an hybrid basis. Residence in the UK and the right to work in the UK is required.

The successful candidate will be part of a team of academics from multiple universities lead by the University of Leicester, including University of Surrey , University College London, University of Glasgow, and University of Oxford. The project addresses the question: In which contexts and why are staff from minoritised ethnic groups more likely to leave or stay within the NHS workforce post-pandemic compared to white British groups?

With this research we aim to improve retention of NHS staff from ethnic minority groups and/or who have migrated to the UK (“minoritised groups”) by improving our understanding of how and why NHS policies and practices lead to attrition/retention in these groups and developing with NHS policy makers, staff and patients, a suite of theory-informed retention interventions.

If you would like to know more or discuss, please contact Prof. Carol Woodhams (C.Woodhams@surrey.ac.uk) or Prof. Sorin Krammer (s.krammer@surrey.ac.uk) for an informal chat.

To apply please attached a CV and a cover letter evidencing your suitability for the role as outlined in job description.

Interviews will take place on the morning of 5 June 2024.

We are committed to sustainability and encourage all staff to adopt working practices that minimise impact to the environment wherever possible.
