We are seeking an enthusiastic and talented scientist for a PhD scholarship funded by a renowned industrial partner.  You will join a unique research environment (Centre for Research Innovation) featuring strong cross-disciplinary links between Pharmaceutical Technology, Pharmaceutical Analysis and Materials Science.

Our group has an outstanding track record in continuous manufacturing including high quality publications, research funding and international awards. Moreover, the Centre is equipped with state-of-the-art processing and analytical equipment. The candidate will conduct research under the supervision of Prof Dennis Douroumis.  

Scope of the Project

The scope of the research topic is to exploit the performance of novel excipients using continuous extrusion processing for the development of pharmaceutical products.  This is a collaborative project with a renowned industrial partner. 

Aims of the Project

  • Investigate a range of extrusion processes such as Hot Melt Extrusion or Twin-Screw Granulation (TSG) for the development of amorphous solid dispersion of water insoluble Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs)
  • Use novel materials to improve dissolution rates of water insoluble drugs
  • Co-processing of other excipients such as polymers or lipids for enhancing drug dissolution rates with improved stability
  • Physicochemical characterizations of extrudates
  • Employment of Quality by Design (Qbd) and Process Analytical Technology (PAT) approaches
