Do you have a Biology, Chemistry, Physics or related degree and are thinking what next? Maybe you have been working as a lab technician looking for the next step in a different area and fancy a change? Do you want to further your career in one of the UK’s leading research-intensive Universities?

We are seeking an individual to help manage and be responsible for our suite of labs, induct new users and train them to use the more controlled lab areas including some specific instruments (subject to relevant experience), which encompass a wide variety of different space types from tissue growth to microscopy and x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy.

Within the Molecular and Nanoscale Physics Group, we work at the interdisciplinary boundary between Physics, Medicine, Biology, and Chemistry, to deliver a broad range of research. Here we probe the Physics of the systems, to help us to make steps forward in our understanding and applications of such diverse areas as light-harvesting complex of plants, cancer imaging and treatment using microbubbles and the development of new diagnostic tests and applications, using our novel gold nanoparticles.

You will work alongside the Senior Experimental Officer to manage the labs and ensure that the laboratory users look after the space, work safely, and have the necessary training to use the spaces and equipment. Depending upon your expertise, we would also expect you to ‘take ownership’ of some equipment and act as the primary contact point for training and problem-solving. Within the role is also room to take on a small research project of your own, which would align and support some of our existing research areas in the development of novel gold nanomaterials, microfluidics or therapeutic microbubbles.

This role will be based in the Sir William Henry Bragg Building on the main University Campus, with some scope for hybrid work. We are also open to discussing flexible working arrangements.
