The Nottingham School of Economics is a top research and teaching institution with an international reputation for excellence across all areas of the discipline. It ranks 5th in the UK according to the most recent UK Research Excellence Framework assessment and among the top 50 in the world according to the latest Tilburg University and IDEAS RePEc tables.

We are pleased to share that we have up to three, Postdoctoral Research Fellow positions available from 1 September 2024 until 31 August 2026.

The three positions are funded by the European Research Council (ERC) and linked to the ERC Advanced Grant Project “Behavioural Principles of Large-Scale Cooperation” (PRINCIPLES). PRINCIPLES is directed by Prof. Simon Gaechter in collaboration with the Centre for Decision Research and Experimental Economics (CeDEx) at the University of Nottingham.

The major goal of PRINCIPLES is to combine insights and methods from economics, sociology, and moral and social psychology into a novel, experimentally tested, framework thereby making a major step forward in the creation of a unified science of human cooperation. Successful applicants for this role will therefore be able to demonstrate an interdisciplinary research interest in the topics of voluntary cooperation, social norms, and social preferences.

Further details on PRINCIPLES and a previous ERC Advanced Grant Project can be found on Prof. Gaechter’s website: https://www.nottingham.ac.uk/Economics/people/simon.gaechter

Under the supervision of Prof. Gaechter, the Research Fellows will collaborate with other Fellows and PhD students working on PRINCIPLES and will also interact with other CeDEx research staff and students. For more information on CeDEx, see https://www.nottingham.ac.uk/cedex/

The appointed Research Fellows will have the opportunity to use their initiative and creativity to identify areas for research, develop research methods and extend their research portfolio.

Applicants must hold a fully completed PhD in Behavioural Economics or a related field such as Social Psychology at the time of appointment.

The positions will be offered on full time (36.25 hours per week), fixed term contracts until 31 August 2026 when PRINCIPLES project funding will conclude.

Informal enquiries may be addressed to Simon Gaechter, email simon.gaechter@nottingham.ac.uk. Please note that applications sent directly to this email address will not be accepted.
