Applications are invited for the full-time, Specific Purpose Contract position of Lecturer in Biomedical Engineering (Computational Biomechanics), within the School of Engineering at University of Galway.
The new appointee will be required to make significant contributions to the teaching and research programmes in Biomedical Engineering at University of Galway. In terms of teaching, the appointee will be expected to contribute strongly to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programmes, student project supervision, and administration activities of the Discipline of Biomedical Engineering, the School of Engineering, and the College of Science and Engineering. Primary teaching responsibilities may be in the areas of finite element methods, fluid-structure-interaction modelling, engineering computing and machine learning. In addition to development and delivery of taught modules in our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, the supervision and mentorship of Masters level student projects is a key component of the role.
It is expected that the appointee will develop an outstanding research programme in Biomedical Engineering, working with colleagues across the University’s academic disciplines and research institutes. Applicants should have a strong research track-record in biomedical engineering or a related discipline, including, but not limited to, the following areas: computational biomechanics and finite element simulation; medical device design; mechanical behaviour of biomaterials. The new appointee will be expected to attract R&D funding from national and international funding sources, and to apply for major funding awards such as SFI investigators programmes, the European Research Council (ERC) Grant programmes, and Horizon Europe programmes, and to work closely with the medical technology industry.

Salary: €61,147 - € 97,548 p.a. (applicable to new entrants effective from January, 2011)
