An exciting opportunity has arisen at the University for an experienced Senior Application Specialist to join the Student Systems team.

Located within University Information Services (UIS), the Student Systems Technical team are responsible for the maintenance and development of the University's critical ERP systems for handling student data.

Working on both operational support and project activities, you will assist with the development and maintenance of our student systems in support of strategic initiatives, whilst improving efficiency and reducing technical debt. You will demonstrate in-depth knowledge of Oracle PeopleSoft and associated technologies whilst providing a high level of support to our customers, often in a lead capacity.

Your work will be varied and unique, and will involve working closely alongside other Application Specialists, Database Administrators, Functional Analysts, Testers and our stakeholders in a constantly changing environment.

Main responsibilities:

  • To be a technical subject matter expert in our student systems and integrations.
  • To take responsibility for the implementation, development and support of our student systems in operational and project settings.
  • To provide 2nd and 3rd line support activities, providing support to end users for complex technical problems.
  • To design and develop quality technical solutions in response to business requirements.
  • To review and migrate code, including the analysis of security patches and upgrades.
  • To work effectively with internal and external stakeholders through all stages of the software development lifecycle.
  • To contribute to our strategic aims of improving efficiency and reducing technical debt.

Main skills & experience:

  • Knowledge of Oracle Peoplesoft applications (preferably Oracle PeopleSoft Campus Solutions 9.2 / PeopleTools 8.60).
  • Knowledge of Oracle PeopleSoft front-end/web development tools and techniques.
  • Knowledge of database design, Oracle SQL, system design, performance tuning and integration.
  • Knowledge of how to approach data and system security.
  • Experience of providing 2nd/3rd line support as part of an operational support team.
  • Experience of coordinating technical change in operational and project settings.
  • Experience of coaching and mentoring others.
  • Strong planning and communication skills.
  • Ability to develop and maintain own technical knowledge.
  • Degree/Postgraduate level education, Level 7 vocational qualification, or equivalent experience.
