About the role
The Department of Genetics and Genome Biology are looking to recruit two talented and motivated individuals to join an established, successful research team. The post is funded by Orion Corporation and is aimed at delivering on key milestones set out by a Orion-University of Leicester collaborative agreement on patient derived explants. You will work with University Hospitals of Leicester (UHL) in terms of interactions with the Pathology Department, and collation of clinical data working with the Leicester Cancer Research Centre Biobank.

As research assistant you will provide support for the Orion Explant project, specifically to lead fresh tumour sample acquisition, sample treatment with Orion anti-cancer drugs and support endpoint analysis.

These posts provide an excellent opportunity for ambitious researchers to work on a prestigious flagship project within a novel priority area, and contribute to the ongoing development of our research alongside their own professional development.
About you
As a Research Assistant (Grade 6), you will have an honours degree and/or relevant experience in cancer biology, biochemistry, histopathology or a related subject alongside experience or, at least, basic knowledge of working with human tissue samples. You will have a strong interest in developing a career in research, a willingness to undertaking training and personal development, and the ability to work independently or as part of a multidisciplinary research team.
As a Research Associate (Grade 7), you will have a PhD in a relevant discipline alongside experience or, at least, basic knowledge of working with human tissue samples and an extensive background knowledge in the research field. You will have strong statistical skills and have experience of using standard computer software programmes. You will have excellent written and oral communication skills, with an ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary research team.
