An exciting opportunity has come up to join the Cultural Heritage Imaging Laboratory at Cambridge University Libraries to manage the Picture Library's imaging, copyright, and licensing requests and service.

Cambridge University Library's Cultural Heritage Imaging Laboratory (CHIL) is responsible for creating and making available high-quality digital images of manuscripts, rare books, photographs and maps from the Library's world-class collections. The Library receives a high volume of requests to provide digital facsimiles, licences for publications and copyright enquiries. It supplies images and services to scholars and publishers as well as undertaking and participating in research projects based around its important collections.

The Picture Library Manager plays a pivotal role in managing and organising the institution's vast collection of digital assets and visual resources. This role involves curating, cataloguing, preserving, and making accessible a wide range of digital materials, including images, photographs, scans, and other visual media that are depicting library's collections.

Reporting to the Head of Cultural Heritage Imaging Laboratory, the Picture Library Manager will focus on the following activities:

Management of Picture Library operations, including policies, technical specifications, and resource allocation, while overseeing customer-facing services and forecasting income. Product ownership for digital asset management, ensuring metadata supports internal searchability and standards.

Provision of expertise in copyright, licensing, permissions research in digitization projects. Collaboration with external colleagues to generate income through third-party licensing and ensuring compliance with copyright and GDPR regulations.

Service ownership for order fulfilment and income generation with support from internal departments, negotiation of reproduction rights, and handling customer inquiries.

Contributes to digitization projects, serving as a product owner for digital asset management systems, ensuring metadata accuracy and software updates.
