Plymouth Marjon has a proud 30-year history of graduating speech and language therapists and we are ready to welcome a new member of staff to our lecturing team.

Who we’re looking for:

You will be an experienced, HCPC Registered Speech and Language Therapist with a proven interest in clinical education. You will also have specialist clinical and academic knowledge relating to developmental speech, language and communication disorders in children.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Clinical expertise in paediatric speech, language and communication disorders.
  • Current HCPC registration as a Speech & Language Therapist.
  • Extensive clinical experience including experience of working with pre-registration students.
  • Knowledge of current evidence-based practice and research in the field.

What you’d be doing:

This post will support the provision of speech and language therapy pre-registration education at Plymouth Marjon and will be part of our growing School of Health and Wellbeing including other AHP programmes.

The position of lecturer/senior lecturer consists of a range of teaching and learning activities supporting students across the programme and related departmental activities such as recruitment (including open days and interviews). You will be required to work as part of a team of academics and practitioners across the school from various professional backgrounds and demonstrate the ability to teach professional education and clinical skills to the highest standards. You will also undertake a range of student supervision/tutoring duties.

You will be expected to contribute to the University’s research and knowledge exchange activities through your own research and by supporting undergraduate and postgraduate student research.

You’ll need to enjoy:

  • Working closely with students, academic and professional colleagues.
  • Devising, developing and delivering a diverse range of teaching, learning and assessment activities.
  • Supporting students’ professional development.
  • Using a range of approaches to support student learning including digital resources.
  • Working to your values: we care about how people behave as well as what they achieve.

For an informal discussion about the role please contact Alex Mallinson, Programme Lead, at amallinson@marjon.ac.uk

Supporting our people:

We recognise that our recruitment might bring in staff who are new to higher education and are bringing knowledge and expertise from other fields and practice. We want to ensure that all our academic staff are appropriately qualified to teach in HE and have the confidence to do so; to support this, we offer a Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice (PGCAP) to all new teaching staff without an existing teaching qualification. This provides our new staff with an opportunity to develop their understanding and practice of learning, teaching and pedagogic research/research management in higher education and enables us to maintain our high standards of teaching.

We are keen to hear from a diverse range of applicants to support our goal to realise every individual’s potential. We are a ‘Disability Confident Employer’: candidates who declare a disability and who demonstrate on their application that they meet the essential criteria will be included on the shortlist. If you are considering relocating, you can read more about Plymouth here.

Closing date: Tuesday 28 May 2024 (at 11:59pm)

Interview date: Thursday 13 June 2024
