The role

The School of Arts supports five successful and dynamic departments: Music, Film and TV, Theatre, Anthropology and Archaeology, and Philosophy and we are looking for a talented Technical Manager to lead on technical teaching operations across the departments of Film and TV, Music and Theatre. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual who wishes to develop in an education focussed technical role in an interesting and vibrant school.  

What will you be doing?

  • Team Leadership: You will oversee the delivery of an efficient and effective technical teaching service and will line manage team members with their own area of technical expertise, balancing their support whilst empowering them to deploy their individual skill to support the teaching needs in their departments.
  • Operational Management: You will manage the delivery of technical teaching across the areas of Film and TV, Music and Theatre ensuring a high standard of provision that stays abreast of technical and curriculum developments.
  • Planning: You will support and inform the longer-term planning of the service to ensure it meets the needs of departments. You will use your knowledge to inform the purchase of new equipment and software to best support teaching needs.
  • Health and Safety Management: You will have experience of writing and implementing Health and Safety policies and procedures and ensuring compliance.

You should apply if

  • You have experience of managing a team of technical experts providing support whilst respecting their professional autonomy.
  • You have experience of working within a relevant context e.g. within the performing arts, film-making, Music and/or live arts. Current, detailed, and applied, technical knowledge in the performing and screen arts, including software and technical equipment.
  • You are able to build and maintain co-operative relationships at all levels in the School, Faculty and wider University.
  • You enjoy working within a team, demanding high standards of yourself and others with a willingness to interact with our students and academics in a confident and friendly manner.
  • You exhibit a high degree of accuracy, excellent administrative skills, good interpersonal skills, and an ability to negotiate, motivate and communicate.
