About The University Of Surrey

The University of Surrey is one of the UK’s top professional, scientific and technological universities. Our world-class profile and leading reputation in teaching and research have earned us a top five ranking in the Guardian University Guide 2017 and seen us awarded University of the Year in The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2016.

Our dramatic rise in the league tables was noted in The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2015, with the observation that “No other university has achieved such a dramatic transformation in fortunes in the past five years.” And we have no plans of slowing down.

World-renowned academic and engineer and our fifth President and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Max Lu, has joined the University this year, and is preparing to lead the next stage of growth and pursue his vision of Surrey as a truly international university.

The passion, talent and drive of our employees is instrumental to achieving this goal and we nurture innovation, collaboration, openness and curiosity wherever we can.

We understand the importance of recognising the positive contribution each member of staff makes and we operate a bonus scheme as well as a generous remuneration package. We also give our employees access to a variety of staff development opportunities, helping them to reach their full potential and progress in their career.

The University's ethos is based upon a belief in our ability to make a difference to the world - to have a positive impact through our free-thinking and hard work. Our culture empowers people to achieve this and to make a real difference both individually and collectively.

As a member of staff at the University of Surrey, you are in integral part of the wonderful things that happen here.

In the 2015 National Student Survey, the University of Surrey was ranked fifth out of 139 Higher Education Institutions (excluding specialists) across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Our overall score of 92 per cent student satisfaction is testament to the continuing partnership between staff and students to put student experience at the heart of everything we do.

We’re proud of our track record for graduate employability and believe our staff are instrumental in maintaining this. We offer everything from knowledge and training to support and advice in helping students succeed in the competitive world of work or pursue their passion further with postgraduate study.

However, our excellence does not end with our teaching. As a member of staff at the University of Surrey you’ll be employed by a world-class, research-led institution, committed to research excellence. Spanning more than 150 centres, groups and institutes, our research tackles global challenges and has inspired generations of students with a spirit of curiosity and the desire to improve the world we live in.

Our 5G Innovation Centre is the largest UK academic research centre dedicated to the development of the next generation of mobile and wireless communications, and Surrey Research Park is home to over 100 companies widely regarded as the best science park of its kind in the UK.

In 2015 our £45 million School of Veterinary Medicine was opened, featuring state-of-the-art clinical skills facilities and one of the best veterinary pathology centres in Europe, supporting Surrey’s growing reputation in the field of veterinary medicine and science.

Looking to the future, Surrey also aims to be a leading educator of the new generation of healthcare engineers and scientists. Our development of multidisciplinary programmes and a new £10m Engineering for Health facility will train the professionals driving technology innovation in tomorrow’s health service.
