Summary:
The University of Sheffield AMRC builds on the success of the original Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre with Boeing, creating a cluster of industry-focused manufacturing R&D centres and supporting facilities. The AMRC with Boeing, established in 2001, has grown to become a world-leading centre of advanced machining and materials research for aerospace and other high-value sectors. It has around 70 industrial members, from global giants such as Rolls-Royce, BAE Systems and Messier-Bugatti-Dowty, to local small businesses.
The Nuclear AMRC, established in 2009, applies the same model of collaborative research to the nuclear supply chain. Members include Areva, Westinghouse, Rolls-Royce, Tata Steel and Sheffield Forgemasters.
The AMRC group also includes Namtec, which provides training and consultancy to the manufacturing supply chain; the Knowledge Transfer Centre, a dedicated meeting, conference and training hub; and the new AMRC Training Centre, which will provide advanced apprenticeship and higher-level skills.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the workshop maintenance and technical support in the delivery of the Engineering Training for both the apprenticeship and technical pathways within the training centre. You will also be expected to help develop and support workshop activities, enrichment activities and STEM events that help to promote the AMRC Training Centre.
Ideally you should have a proven track record of industry practice and workshop environments within the Engineering Manufacturing Sector, or proven industrial experience from a Mechanical Manufacturing perspective. A history of working with external customers is desirable for this role. The successful candidate will be expected to support all trade areas as required, therefore additional skills and knowledge in various engineering disciplines would be an advantage.
This post is fixed-term until 31 March 2014.
