Part Time: 14.6 hours per week (0.4 FTE)

The appointment will be on UCL Grade 6. The salary range will be £26,186 - £30,688 pro rata per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.

The combined paediatric and adult neuromuscular centre at UCL is one of the largest neuromuscular centres in Europe, with more than 4,000 patients seen each year. This post offers the opportunity of collaborative work between the adult and paediatric centres and will take advantage of this large patient population for improving the assessment tools of patients with a variety of neuromuscular disorders followed in the combined paediatric and adult centre.

Specific projects that the researcher will be involved with are the validation of functional scales for the assessment of children and adults with neuromuscular conditions. In particular the therapist will be involved with the validation in adults of the Duchenne and Spinal muscular atrophy functional scales, so far only used and validated in children; the development and validation of functional scales in individuals with peripheral neuropathies; the use of activity monitors as surrogate functional measures for children and adults affected by neuromuscular disorders; the correlation of these surrogate measures with muscle strength.

The postholder must hold a Degree or equivalent qualification in physiotherapy and have a Health Professions Council registration. It is also essential that the postholder has previous experience of broad grounding physiotherapy. The postholder must have the ability to work as part of both a physiotherapy and multidisciplinary team and have good listening and communication skills across the age range, in all clients.
