Research Associate in Design

Salary: £27,854 - £29,541, rising to £36,298

This role will involve practice-based design research, designing novel technologies to explore concepts of digital personhood, as it is currently experienced and as it may be experienced in the near future. You will be required to develop original design concepts to high quality fabrication for use in research activities, and take an active role in associated user studies.
You must hold a PhD related to Interaction Design, HCI, or have equivalent professional experience. A Bachelors and/or Masters degree in Design, HCI, or a related discipline is desirable. Experience in visual communication design, and user experience (UX) design, is required. You must be creative, imaginative and be able to support design activity from concept development to finished prototypes. Skills required include illustration, interface design/programming, 3D prototyping and video production. Strong communication skills, the ability to support interdisciplinary research teams, and a desire to develop user research skills are essential.
You must be able to spend time away from Newcastle visiting project partners for project meetings and running user studies, attending international and national conference, and occasional weekend work.
