Summary:

King’s College London is seeking to appoint an outstanding scholar in the field of science engagement with a proven record of successful senior academic scholarship to a Chair in the Department of Education and Professional Studies.

The Department of Education and Professional Studies at King’s College London is among the country's three highest-rated departments for the proportion of 3* and 4* rated outputs in the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise (RAE).  The diverse research agenda in the department incorporates questions about culture, communication, cognition, authority, power, social justice and ethics in educational and other professional and social contexts. Scholarship in the department is interdisciplinary; it is located within the humanities and social sciences and it draws upon a wide range of theoretical and disciplinary perspectives.

The Chair in Science Engagement will be part of the Centre for Research in Education in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (CRESTEM), an internationally recognised centre of excellence in science and mathematics education with a long and distinguished history of researching the teaching and learning of science, technology and mathematics in formal and informal educational and workplace settings. We are now seeking to expand this group beyond the confines of science and mathematics education to create a leading centre for the critical study of science engagement.

Details:

The new Chair in Science Engagement will exercise high-level academic leadership in research, as well as contributing to teaching within the Department of Education and Professional Studies. The position demands an individual with an outstanding track record of research, who will build networks and programmes of work that link CRESTEM to other research centres within the Department and the wider College. The successful candidate will take a lead in, and make a substantial contribution to, the development and expansion of the science engagement agenda at the Centre.

Applicants must have an established international reputation in science engagement, demonstrate the ability to work across disciplinary boundaries, and have the ability to build relationships with academic colleagues in an interdisciplinary setting. Applicants will ideally have a proven track record of successfully managing staff, financial resources, and acquiring grants. The position is based at the Waterloo campus in London.

Salary:  A competitive salary will be offered, starting at a minimum of £56,535 per annum plus £2,323 per annum London Allowance
