The National Schools’ Observatory (NSO) is a major educational website, established by Liverpool John Moores University to provide UK schools with access to a professional robotic telescope that was designed for scientific research, called the Liverpool Telescope (LT). The NSO aims to attract, inspire and enthuse children about science and technology through the medium of astronomy.

You will lead the development and management of school-based observational projects and activities that use data from the Liverpool Telescope and will be provided through the NSO website. You will also assist with the development of new observing programmes within the NSO observing system (Go Observing) and assist with the testing and implementation of existing and future LT instrumentation within the NSO's observing system.

You will have good experience of the astronomy education sector and be educated to good degree level standard in a STEM subject. You will also have proven experience in the analysis and manipulation of image data from a professional telescope, and have a good understanding of Linux, IRAF and an associated programming language. We are also looking for evidence of an ability to communicate scientific principles and concepts to schoolchildren using a wide range of online media resources.
