The US-UK Fulbright Commission is now accepting applications for the new 2017-18 Royal Society of Edinburgh Scholar Award
This award provides a career-development opportunity for a scholar with a connection to Scotland to pursue research into any subject at any accredited institution in the United States for a period of 3 months.
We welcome applications from academics researching any discipline, at any stage of their post-PhD career, as long as they have a clear and continuing connection to Scotland, be it through their research, background, or home institution. We look for strong research projects with evidence of academic excellence, demonstrable ambassadorial skills, experience of a range of extracurricular activities, ambition and leadership potential, and a desire to further the Fulbright Programme and give back to the UK upon return.
The Fulbright-RSE Award offers the following benefits:
- A monthly stipend of $5,000 per month
- A number of memberships
- Sickness and accident benefit coverage
- Visa sponsorship
- Substantial pre-departure support, including a Finalists Workshop (March) and a 2-day Orientation Programme (July)
- Once on-the-ground in the US, further support is offered by the Council for the International Exchange of Scholars (CIES)
- Membership of an extensive Fulbright Alumni network after grant completion
Applicants must be a UK citizen (resident anywhere) and hold or expect to receive a PhD (or equivalent professional training or experience) in a relevant area before departure to the US. Those who hold or who are eligible to hold US citizenship, or who are resident in the US at the time of application, may not apply for an Award from the US-UK Fulbright Commission.
