People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals


Position Objective: To lead projects regarding animal testing issues in furtherance of PETA's advocacy on behalf of animals, with a focus on regulatory testing

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Lead projects, conduct independent research, and interpret a variety of animal-protection issues to further PETA's cause, primarily as it relates to animal testing required by regulatory agencies
  • Organise and lead international workshops related to animal testing issues
  • Collaborate with the head of science to decide on and obtain the necessary data for factsheets, white papers, reports, and other correspondence
  • Represent PETA at scientific conferences and communicate with scientists regarding issues relating to casework
  • Build and maintain communications with key audiences, including with particular decisionmakers in the legislative, administrative, and clinical arenas
  • Answer correspondence regarding animal testing issues from a range of stakeholders, including members of the public, the media, and companies
  • Conduct analysis of technical papers and translate scientific terminology into lay terms for use in research projects
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times
  • Act as a media spokesperson on issues related to animal testing
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor 

Position Requirements

  • Degree in biology, biochemistry, genetics, or other related field
  • Demonstrable expertise in non-animal testing methods
  • Proven ability to lead projects
  • Proven ability to facilitate workshops
  • Public-speaking experience
  • Proven familiarity with and the ability to apply medical and scientific terminology
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct in-depth research and handle many issues simultaneously
  • Proven ability to make sound, independent judgements
  • Proven exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven ability to deal with members of the public in a professional and courteous manner
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Proven excellent strategic-thinking and analytical skills
  • Professional appearance
  • Willingness and ability to travel
  • Commitment to the objectives of the organisation
