Applications are invited for appointments as Tenure-Track Professor/Associate Professor/Assistant Professor in the Department of Law, to commence on January 1, 2017 or as soon as possible thereafter, on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal and with consideration for tenure before the expiry of the second three-year fixed-term contract. Direct tenure may be offered to outstanding candidates for the senior ranks.
The Faculty is now inviting applications from outstanding academics for appointment as Professor, Associate Professor and Assistant Professor in all areas of expertise. Scholars with research and teaching interests in (a) the law of contract, tort, property, trusts, evidence, criminal procedure and related areas of common law, or (b) Chinese law, are particularly encouraged to apply.
Applicants for the Professorship should be outstanding academics with an international reputation as leaders in their field. Applicants for Associate Professorship should be able to demonstrate excellence in teaching and research. Applicants for Assistant Professorship should be academically strong and demonstrate potential for excellence as teachers and researchers. Joint appointments between law and another discipline will also be considered. Some of the appointments will be supported by the generous benefaction to the Faculty from the Cheng Yu Tung Foundation.
Applicants should have an undergraduate degree in Law (or a Juris Doctor degree) and an additional postgraduate degree in law. Those who have JD as the only law degree are also encouraged to apply if there is evidence for a strong publications record and relevant experience in teaching, legal practice or the judiciary, or a postgraduate degree in a non-law discipline. The successful candidates are expected to make a significant contribution to the Faculty’s research through high-quality international publications and active participation in the Faculty’s research community. They are also expected to contribute to the development of undergraduate law programmes, the JD programme, or various taught postgraduate programmes, and to supervise research postgraduate students. A globally competitive remuneration package commensurate with the appointee’s qualifications and experience will be offered. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary. Housing benefits will be provided as applicable. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income.
