Applications are invited for research fellow positions in the area of aerodynamics and aeroacoustics at the Advanced Aircraft Noise Technology Center (AANTC) at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). The current research area of the group includes but is not limited to:
- Fundamental research in aerodynamics and aeroacoustics
- Noise generation and propagation by aircraft airframe
- Noise generation and propagation in an aircraft engine, e.g., turbofan, and open rotor engines
- Noise generation and propagation by unmanned aerial vehicles, e.g., UAVs and MAVs
- Noise transmission in confined environment, e.g., duct acoustics, cabin noise
- Whole aircraft noise modelling and prediction, for conventional and future designs
- Flow control for improved aerodynamic and aeroacoustic performance
- Design and testing of biologically inspired low-noise wings, e.g., owl wing inspired
Applications are sought from candidates who hold or will hold a PhD or equivalent degrees in aeroacoustics or related disciplines. A good understanding of acoustics and fluid mechanics is essential for the position. Experience of aircraft noise research, noise prediction method and aeroacoustic measurement methods are highly desirable. He/she is expected to be able to develop an area of personal research as well as to collaborate with other researchers in the group.
The successful candidates will have opportunities to work with renowned expert in the field and to take part in exciting projects sponsored by aerospace industries. He/she will work in an amiable and efficient research group and supervise PhD candidates to develop their careers. Competitive salary will be provided for the positions.

The Advanced Aircraft Noise Technology Center:
The Advanced Aircraft Noise Technology Center is based in the School of Engineering. In the 2013-14 Times Higher Education World University Rankings in Engineering and Technology, HKUST was ranked No. 1 in Greater China and 21st globally. AANTC, led by Professor Xin Zhang, brings together academic staff, research fellows and PhD students using state-of-the-art computer simulations and advanced anechoic wind tunnel testing to develop new computational methods, noise prediction methods noise reduction concepts, and provides engineering solution for industry. The centre possesses high-order in-house computational aeroacoustic codes, and various noise and flow facilities. The group has wide academic links and industry collaboration.
