University of the West of Scotland is an ambitious, growing university and we are at an exciting stage in our development. We have renewed our academic and international focus and are growing our research and knowledge exchange. Our investment in Engineering and Computing now sees us recruiting a number of academic posts in the School. We are looking for engaged and talented individuals to make a real impact on the local, national and international communities we serve. This post is therefore part of a major investment in new talent and excellence to support our growth plans.

With a growing international reputation, we pride ourselves on teaching and research excellence. We have in nearly 30 UG and PG degree programmes across the School, designed to engage with practice. We are launching a set of new post-graduate programmes over the next two academic sessions to build on these successes. The School’s research is organised into a close community of industry-focused inter-disciplinary research groups in areas such as games and video technology, smart 5G networks and cloud computing, database and intelligent systems, with growing work in cybersecurity. We are now looking for an outstanding individual to join the School Leadership Team and help take our work to a new height.

This post arises from a reorganisation in the School to support the delivery of our Corporate Plan. We are looking to appoint an outstanding academic leader who has the vision and ability to inspire the team. You will have experience of programme development and resource management. This exceptional opportunity will enable you to shape and develop this part of our School. Working with the Dean and Assistant Deans, you will help the School to meet our overall aspirational objectives. You will cultivate a strong team spirit and have the capability to lead change in this dynamic environment.

Relevant experience in one or more of the fields in this academic cluster with an ability to collaborate across disciplines is an essential requirement of the post. You will demonstrate a commitment to high quality, innovative education with a global outlook.  It would be desirable that you have engaged with employer networks / research communities to enhance your educational leadership.

You will have a strong track record to augment our commercial and / or research activities, and will exhibit an entrepreneurial and collaborative mindset to enhance the impact of your work. You should be qualified in a relevant subject, normally at Doctoral level. It would also be preferable to have Senior HEA Fellowship or other professional qualification/ membership that reflects your standing in the community. A Professorial appointment is possible for suitable candidates.

The successful candidate will be based at our Paisley Campus with some scheduled activities at our other campus locations. Scotland boasts some of the most stunning countryside and coastline for outdoor and family life. We are close to Glasgow, Scotland’s largest city, with its rich heritage and vibrant cultural life, and just minutes from the International airport.
