Salary: £25,769 to £34,576 per annum, depending on skills and experience (minimum £28,982 with relevant PhD).

Applications are invited for the above post based at the Division of Respiratory Medicine and Division of Epidemiology and Public Health at the City Hospital Campus.

This post is being advertised in response to a grant award from Pfizer to investigate the fracture risk and osteoporosis in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) using UK primary care data from The Health Improvement Network (THIN).

The main responsibility of the Research Associate/Fellow (RA/RF) will be to determine prevalence for osteoporosis in patients with COPD at diagnosis, explore the constituent variables for fracture risk scores, calculate fracture risk scores where possible and compare to a control population, determine incidence of osteoporosis and fractures in patients with COPD.

The successful candidate will be expected to conduct data extraction, management and analysis using Stata. The RA/RF will also be expected to write up their findings for submission to a peer-reviewed academic journal as well as draft lay summaries and abstracts for wider dissemination of the research findings. The successful applicant will be expected to attend relevant divisional meetings.

This post will be offered on a fixed-term contract until 30 November 2017. Part-time working can be considered.
