The Oxford Regional Genetics Laboratories provide a cytogenetic and molecular genetic testing facility for a broad range of routine, specialist and complex inherited conditions. We provide molecular diagnostic services for patients and families within the Thames Valley as well as nationally and internationally.
The laboratories, together with the molecular haematology laboratory, form the molecular diagnostics centre (MDC). The MDC has recently been designated as an NHS England Genomic Medicine Centre.
Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) are central to the successful operation of a large laboratory and we are looking for an Informatics Technologist / LIMS Developer to assist with the delivery of an ongoing laboratory database migration project as well as other developments as required. The role will also involve support, development and maintenance of IT software and hardware across the laboratory.
You must have excellent computer skills and be able to demonstrate experience of developing LIMS (for example StarLIMS) and other database systems. You’ll require experience of programming in Jscript.NET, SQL, Starlims Scripting Language and/or Crystal Reports or equivalent skills are essential. Previous experience of IT / Informatics in an NHS / laboratory environment is desirable, as is experience of project development in healthcare applications.
You must be technically minded with excellent written and verbal communication skills. You must be confident in demonstrating new developments to colleagues, be able to show strong time-management and prioritisation skills, as well as accuracy and consistency in all aspects of your work.
