(Equivalent to Associate level/Transport Planner level)

The Railway and Transport Strategy Centre (RTSC) at Imperial College London is a globally recognised applied research and consultancy group. We are a growing, multidisciplinary team combining people from industry, consultancy and academic backgrounds. The RTSC's primary activities are research and consultancy for international groups of transport operators – primarily metro, rail, light rail and bus operators, with new opportunities opening up in the field of aviation focused on airports.
We undertake detailed studies on topics of interest and annual performance data benchmarking. Recent research topics include fares and funding policy, driverless metros, whole life cost, and service planning. Our partners include approximately 100 transport operators worldwide, including Transport for London and Heathrow Airport; we also work for governments and international institutions including the UK Department for Transport and the World Bank.
You will be part of a friendly and supportive team, made up of around 20 colleagues, who are committed to working together to conduct high quality research that makes a real difference to clients and to stakeholders.
The post involves carrying out research and consultancy projects for transport operators, often using comparative analysis to generate advice and recommendations for senior management. You will gain exposure to the many facets of transport management at both the technical and strategic levels, dealing with senior figures in the industry, across the railway, metro, light rail, bus, and/or aviation sectors.
Due to the applied nature of the work and its industry focus, applications are strongly encouraged from practitioners and consultants in the transport industry across the relevant sectors; prior work in academia is not a prerequisite. You should be educated in a discipline with significant transport content such as urban planning, preferably to Masters’ degree level or equivalent demonstrable experience. Fluency in written and spoken English is required and an ability to speak foreign languages would be an advantage. Each role typically involves international travel several times per year.
