Research Assistant £25,023 - £28,982 or Research Associate £28,982 - £37,768.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 12 months in the first instance.

A Research Assistant/Associate post is available in the Systems Research Group at the Cambridge University Computer Laboratory for 12 months in the first instance with possibility of extension to two years. Both pre-doctoral and post-doctoral applications are encouraged.

The successful candidate will contribute to work in the general area of computer systems development.

Technologies that may be used include ARM TrustZone, the OCaml unikernel system MirageOS, Xen, KVM, Docker, and Intel SGX.

Successful candidates must thus be able to:

  • Demonstrate understanding and experience of systems-level software development.
  • Demonstrate direct, practical experience with relevant system-level technologies, preferably to include one or more of those noted above.
  • Demonstrate experience of system evaluation, including experiment design, data capture, and data analysis. This might be through past production of academic papers, but alternative experience such as in commercial environments is also welcome.
  • Provide evidence of past engagement with the open-source community in the form of code contributions, blogging, or other means.

Candidates suitable for appointment at research assistant level should have an undergraduate degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience. Appointment at research associate level is dependent on having a PhD (or equivalent experience) in Computer Science or a related subject. Where a PhD has yet to be awarded appointment will initially be made as a research assistant and amended to research associate when the PhD is awarded.

Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate excellent systems programming skills. They will have a strong track-record in the form of either relevant prior projects and/or publications in the field.
