Research Assistant in Human-Computer Interaction and Computer Vision (Fixed Term)

The University of Lincoln is seeking to appoint a Research Assistant with background in Games Programming and Computer Vision to join the School of Computer Science. The School provides a stimulating environment for academic research, and is based on the picturesque waterfront campus in the vibrant city of Lincoln in high quality, newly developed facilities

The post is fixed-term for 12 months funded by through the EPSRC Project “An Interactive Training Platform to Improve Manual Wheelchair Skills”. The project aims to explore the potential of vision-based interactive systems to support in-home wheelchair skills training for manual wheelchair users. The successful candidate will play a key role in the development of accessible camera-based user interfaces, training application programming, and the evaluation stage that will be carried out together with end-users. The project is in collaboration with UK-based charity Go Kids Go! and the University of British Columbia, Canada.

The post holder will be expected to contribute both theoretical work and software development. He/she will also be expected to participate in the evaluation stage of the project, writing research reports, papers and presenting the work.

The ideal candidate should at minimum hold a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering with a background in programming, computer vision, or in a related discipline, with good programming skills (e.g. C#/C++). Experience of working with camera-based user interfaces and experience in Human-Computer Interaction Research is desirable.
