Applicants are invited for the position of Research Associate within the Cardiff School of Engineering. The main duty of this role is to conduct research within the Advanced High Voltage Research Centre, for the Flexible Integrated Energy Systems (FLEXIS) European Regional Development Fund Operation which is part funded by the European Regional Development Fund through the Welsh Government. During this period, 100% of this post will be activities related to the implementation and delivery of FLEXIS EAST Welsh European Funding Office (WEFO Case No. 80836). The post holder has to investigate Trifluoroiodomethane (CF3I) gas (and other gases if appropriate) as an environmentally friendly alternative to sulphur hexafluoride (CF6) gas for Gas Insulated Lines (GIL), including investigating properties of gas and its mixtures; determining interaction of gas with other materials; assessing long term effect of gas and its by-products on other materials; improving absorption of unwanted breakdown products and develop techniques to remove them from enclosed power equipment and developing demonstrator of circuit breaker and gas insulated lines with monitoring sensors. The post holder will contribute to the overall research performance of the School and University, carrying out research leading to the publishing of work in high-quality journals. To pursue excellence in research and to inspire others to do the same.
The research will be undertaken at Cardiff School of Engineering in Cardiff.
This is a full time post (35 hours per week) which is available immediately and for a fixed term period of 3 years 11 months.
